How to choose a voltage stabilizer

Power, input voltage range and where to install it: what to know before buying a stabilizer.

A voltage stabilizer protects appliances from sags and surges in the mains. In the evening, when many people switch on their appliances at once, the voltage can drop to 190–200 volts, and a fridge, boiler, pump or TV wears out faster or shuts down at that level.

The main figure is power (kVA). Add up the appliances that will run at the same time and allow about 30% headroom. Anything with a motor — a fridge, pump or air conditioner — draws several times its normal current at start-up, so it needs more headroom. For a single appliance 0.5–2 kVA is enough; a whole flat or house usually takes 5–10 kVA or more.

Check the input voltage range: the wider it is, the lower the voltage at which the stabilizer keeps working. A whole-house stabilizer goes after the meter, and a three-phase supply needs a three-phase model or three single-phase ones.

The Electrica Group catalogue has ANDELI SVC stabilizers from 0.5 to 30 kVA with a 150–250 V input range. If you are not sure what power you need, our specialists will help you work it out — For Long Life.
